Terain’s Dynamic Demographic Module

Our Travel Distance Layer illustrates areas that are reachable within a specific amount of time, or kilometres, via three different modes of transport and their relative means of access. The areas illustrated on the map are called isochrones.

The three options available to our users are:

Walking

Cycling

Driving

Custom distance boundaries can be put in place for up to 60 minutes or 40 kilometres. We also have specific increments to allow for a highly detailed view of the travel distance from an area, and the population within each isochrone.
These isochrones are continuing to be introduced across Terain to allow users to filter data based only on visits from within a certain distance. We have already introduced this in our Catchment metric to allow users to explore how many visits come from devices that have a home- or work-zone within a 30 minute drivetime, for example.
The next two metrics being connected to our Travel Distance Layer are Origin and Brand Preferences. The TDL replaces our static radius previously used in these metrics and allows for far more in-depth, relevant analysis.

    Origin

Use the TDL to divide a visitor base into 4 distinct categories:
    • Resident (all devices that have visited a geofence that live within the specified travel distance)
    • National (all devices that have visited a geofence that live outside the specified travel distance)
    • Worker (all devices that have visited a geofence that work within the specified travel distance)
    • Overseas (Non-GB residents)

    Brand Preferences

Understand which brands the devices that visit a geofence tend to prefer, within a specified distance on the TDL.

For example, look at a shopping centre and understand which brands the visitors seen in this area tend to prefer in a 20 minute drivetime. Explore hundreds of different industries and brands and use the TDL to target local trends and resident preferences, and compare this to the current offering.
